IBM SAN Hardware Rises to the Top

With only one top-three in all six previous Quality Awards, IBM SAN storage hardware has finally risen to the top.

IBM hardware took home the top prize in the September 2012 Storage Magazine Quality Awards with top rankings in four out of five survey categories.

Surprise Victory for IBM SAN hardware

With dismal performances in previous Quality Award surveys, the unexpected IBM victory ousted previous midrange array winners like EMC and NetApp from the stage.

Facing fierce competition, IBM received impressive scores for overall quality, product reliability, and initial product quality. Falling short only in the category of sales-force competence, IBM customers expressed satisfactions with IBM product features and reported that technical support was delivered as the contract specified.

The outstanding results for IBM SAN hardware were due to positive feedback on midrange IBM storage arrays. Survey results consisted of customer feedback on the IBM V7000, DS4000, DS3950, DS5000, and DS6000.

Quality Awards Recognize Products in Actual Use

With unbiased survey results, the Quality Awards are designed to identify storage hardware products that demonstrate quality for a variety of end users.

The Storage magazine surveys are designed to eliminate any bias related to market share, vendor name, or reputation of the brand. The statistically valid results for the September 2012 Quality Awards are based on more than 460 storage hardware evaluations across seven hardware brands.
