A disruption of your business processes could leave your entire business exposed. Today's companies face escalating customer demands and expectations—there is no room for downtime.

The goal of thorough disaster protection planning is to protect the applications that run your business and minimize unplanned downtime. However, one important consideration is that all planning for any type of a disaster-tolerant solution is always subject to balancing the solution versus the downtime versus the cost.

The DS4800 Disk Storage System is designed to deliver powerful, dynamic capabilities that help protect data and prevent failure, not just respond and recover. In the event of a true DR event, Point-in-time copying with IBM FlashCopy®, copying a volume with VolumeCopy, and remote mirroring with Enhanced Remote Mirroring can provide enterprise-class disaster recovery strategies.

More importantly, the reasonable cost of a DS4800 as a disaster recovery platform makes it an feasible platform for implementing DR for your business.

A 4U rack-mountable enclosure houses the DS4800 redundant, dual-active intelligent RAID controllers equipped with 8 x 4 Gbps ports (four ports per controller) for attachment of host servers and DS4000 Storage Expansion Unit enclosures.

The DS4800 attaches up to fourteen EXP810 DS4000 Storage Expansion Units, supporting configurations up to over 134TB of FC or 448TB SATA disks or a mix of both types of disk drives by use of the optional DS4800 Fibre Channel/SATA Enclosure Intermix feature. This ensures that different tiers of data are properly tiered in the event of an actual disaster recovery or failover event.
