As worldwide disk storage needs increase, EMC disk storage systems continue to dominate the global market.

EMC Disk Storage Leads World Disk Storage Market

Disk storage systems worldwide increased more by more than $6 billion in revenue and EMC has continued to hold the largest share of the market revenue.

EMC storage hardware dominated its disk storage competitors in the first quarter of 2012, holding over 29% of the revenue share.

Following at a distance, NetApp storage hardware took second place in the quarterly market share report with 14.1% of the market revenue share. The success of both EMC disk storage and NetApp storage hardware was followed by IBM, Hewlett-Packard, and Hitachi Data Systems.

Worldwide Disk Storage Continues to Grow

According to the IDC, world-wide disk storage systems saw year-over-year growth of more than 7%.

Led by overall strong growth in emerging data storage regions, the strong performance is the first quarter of 2012 equates to approximately $6 billion in revenue for the disk storage systems market.

The report states that more than 6 PB, or 6 million GB, of disk capacity shipped during the first quarter of 2012.
