NetApp Storage Supercomputer

The US Department of Energy announced yesterday that NetApp will provide the storage foundation for a new government supercomputer called Sequoia at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in Livermore, California. The Sequoia, which will be deployed in 2012, is predicted to be one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers with a primary mission of ensuring the safety and security of the United States’ aging nuclear arsenal without underground testing. Sequoia will also be used for other important programs, such as non-proliferation, counterterrorism, energy security, and climate change.
